091 Labs
Ok so I have been busy over the last few weeks/months and haven’t had a chance to post anything. A lot has changed in my life, I’m now living back in Galway where I did my undergrad, and I’m signed up for a Masters in the university here.
I have also joined 091 Labs, a community-run makerspace. A number of friends have asked me about it, and I shall try my best to explain here.
It is essentially a shared space for any and all projects whether it be software based or something more physical. There are people here creating Android apps, and others building things with a 3D printer. Although most projects are technology based, we aim to be as diverse as possible. The idea is that people learn new skills, and expose themselves to new ideas and ways of thinking. To that end, there are a number of workshops that are planned over the coming months, including Python for Beginners. You can find out more about hacker/makerspaces in general on the wikipedia article.
In August (TBC), I will be holding some basic workshops on how to create your own website from scratch with no prior knowledge required. I’ll post again when more details have been finalised. It is likely that some of the material for the course will be posted both on this site and on the 091Labs site.
091 Labs is run by volunteer members and is funded by membership, workshops, and events. If you are feeling generous, or want to help out in anyway, you can donate via PayPal on the Shop/Donate page of the labs’ website. You can also help by donating things that are on our wishlist.
