I’ll preface this post by saying that I use all of these plugins on almost every website I make. There may be other equivalents that are better, but these are the ones that I use. They all work for me on WordPress 3.4.1 (latest release at the time of this writing) despite what the extension page may say.

smart 404

From their tagline: “Save your visitors from unhelpful 404 errors!” Smart 404 is a fantastic tool that automatically forwards visitors who used a bad link, to the page they were probably trying to access. The plugin does a quick search of posts, pages, tags, and categories using keywords from the requested URL. If there’s a match, it’ll redirect to that content or provide a list of suggestions if there are multiple results.
